A Busy First Week

Well, I’ve made it through the first week of classes of my second (and final) year at SAIT Polytechnic.  It’s gearing up to be a very, very busy semester: nine (yes, nine) courses (including field school) with at least four major term projects.  We have yet to be briefed on any projects for field school.

The courses for this term are:

  • Data Interpretation
  • Environmental Audits and Management Systems *
  • Environmental Sampling and Analysis *
  • Ecosystems and Environmental Impact Assessment *
  • Site Reclamation *
  • Field School
  • Hydrogeology
  • Environmental Law and Regulation
  • Environmental Chemistry II

Classes with an asterisk (*) are project classes which, by all accounts so far, look pretty interesting (perhaps with the exception of the auditing class, but that’s cause we have no firm details on that project yet).  We do know, however, that we will be developing sampling plans, auditing the SAIT wellsite, reclaiming a scaled-down marine oil spill, and examining the impact assessment process.

I’m hoping to be able to keep a progress update on here, but can’t guarantee this based on the insane course- and project-load and the amount of time they will inevitably eat up.
